Privacy Policy
Devs.lk (“Devs.lk”, “we”, “us”) is a community for Sri Lankan developers. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit devs.lk or take part in the community, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as we need.
1. Information we collect
- Information you give us: for example your name, email address and any details you share when you contact us, register for an event, or join the community.
- Community content: things you choose to post or share publicly, such as messages, projects, talks or profile details.
- Basic technical data: standard information sent by your browser, such as IP address, device and browser type, and pages visited. This may be recorded in server logs or by privacy-respecting analytics.
2. Devs.lk Hub waitlist
If you join the waitlist for the Devs.lk Hub, the platform we’re building, we collect:
- Your email address, so we can tell you when the Hub’s private beta opens and send occasional updates about the Hub’s launch.
- Your role, if you choose one (for example student or developer), so we understand who the Hub is for.
- Which sign-up form you used and when you joined.
- A one-way hash of your IP address, used only to block automated spam sign-ups and deleted automatically shortly afterwards. Your IP address is not stored with your sign-up.
Waitlist sign-ups are stored on our hosting provider’s servers (Hostinger) in a private location that cannot be reached from the web. We use the list only to contact you about the Hub. We don’t share it with sponsors, partners or anyone else, and we never sell it.
After you join, your browser’s local storage remembers it so the site can show your confirmation on later visits. This stays on your device and you can clear it at any time.
We keep your waitlist details until the Hub launches and you’ve received your invitation, then delete them unless you’ve created a Hub account. To leave the waitlist sooner, email [email protected] from the address you signed up with, or use the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
3. How we use it
- To run the community, events and website, and respond to your messages.
- To send you updates you’ve asked for (you can unsubscribe at any time).
- To keep the community safe and enforce our Terms of Use.
- To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Sharing
We only share personal information with service providers that help us operate (such as hosting, email or event tools), with event partners when you’ve agreed to it, or where required by law. Anything you post publicly in the community can be seen by others.
5. Cookies
The website uses only the cookies or local storage needed for it to work (such as remembering your light/dark theme and whether you’ve joined the waitlist), and any analytics we use is configured to minimise personal data. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
6. Retention & security
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above, then delete or anonymise it. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect it, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
7. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, including Sri Lanka’s Personal Data Protection Act, No. 9 of 2022, you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, object to or restrict how we use it, or withdraw consent. Email us and we’ll respond within a reasonable time.
8. Children
Devs.lk is not directed at children under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll remove it.
9. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll change the “Last updated” date above, and for significant changes we’ll let the community know.
